Men infected with HIV are more likely to experience erectile dysfunction ( ED) , regardless of age and body mass index (BMI). Thus, the results of recent findings of experts which was published in July 2012 in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
In its comments, Stefano Zona , MD, of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy , and colleagues compared the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in young men average age infected with HIV ( 444 people ) and uninfected HIV ( 71 ) . Erectile dysfunction was measured using a questionnaire called the International Index of Erectile Function .
Each serum samples from participants took testosterone, demographics, age, weight, height and BMI. The researchers found that, compared to participants who are not infected with HIV , men infected with HIV every decade of age have a higher prevalence of erectile dysfunction in mild, moderate and severe.
The researchers claim that HIV infection was significantly correlated with erectile dysfunction in the univariate analysis ( with the report, 34,19 ) and is the best predictor of erectile dysfunction in multivariate analysis (odds ratio , 42.26 ) after adjusting for age and BMI linked.
"This study shows the prevalence of erectile dysfunction increased in people with HIV and to show that this condition is intrinsic to the clinical presentation of HIV infection ," said the researchers.
